In the mountains north of Beijing, Chinese citizens escape the stress and fast pace of city life and retreat to a gated community seeking freedom, happiness, and the ideology of the “American Dream” in a development that replicates Jackson Hole, Wyoming. Residents adopt western traditions, playing American sports, hosting rodeos, experimenting with “traditional” American recipes, and celebrating U.S. Independence Day. Living this American fantasy within the walls of their rustic timber and stone homes decorated in the style of the American west and clad in the red, white, and blue, the residents of this replica community face backlash from the Chinese government and fellow citizens, who disapprove of their unpatriotic practices. Americaville invites you inside the gated development to experience this most unusual phenomena.
